Journey to the center of the cell

To help bring science closer to the public and promote appreciation for scientific work, a group of colleagues from the Universidad Austral de Chile (Prof. Dr. Hianara Bustamante, Prof. Dr. Cecilia Arriagada, and Prof. Dr. Gullermo Valenzuela) and I organized an experimental outreach activity titled A Journey to the Center of the Cell”, held at Liceo Altamira in the Los Ríos Region. During this event, we conducted experiments such as bacterial staining, observation of the cell cycle in garlic root tips, DNA extraction, and gel electrophoresis. The goal was to teach key biological concepts, spark interest in the life sciences, and help students develop practical laboratory skills.
