What is life? 1000 scientists 1000 classrooms

The 1000 Scientists, 1000 Classrooms” initiative aims to bring science closer to students through talks delivered by scientists in schools. This program encourages interest in scientific disciplines and strengthens the connection between academia and society.

My passion for promoting, communicating, and valuing science motivated me to take part in this outreach activity through talks in the Los Ríos Region. This particular talk focused on explaining the concept of autopoiesis, proposed in the 1970s by two Chilean theoretical biologists, Humberto Maturana and Francisco Varela. The concept explores the definition of what it means to be alive. While it remains relatively unknown in Chile, it is widely recognized internationally.
